KARACHI: Altaf rejects poll results

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 12: The chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, rejected on Saturday results of the Oct 10 general elections and called them a farce and fraud.

Speaking by phone to party workers at Nine-Zero, he claimed that he could inflict unprecedented defeat on the rivals if fresh elections were held under the supervision of UN monitoring teams.

He declared that “the final results have been manipulated by the Establishments and its agents who had planned to impose religious extremists on the Karachiites,” and recalled his statements in which he had accused the Establishment of pursuing a policy of Talibanization of the port city.

He alleged that when all attempts failed, they resorted to rigging to the advantage of religious parties despite the fact that Karachi is a city of liberal and moderate people.

Accusing the authorities of rigging, he claimed his party’s vote-bank had not been eroded, and said his party would soon present its case before the EC and challenge the rigging in court.
