ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: Eighth seed Alamgir Wali exacted revenge on Shahzad Khan Friday showing the top seed the door as the ITF Pakistan International Junior Championship II resumed after an election day break.
Alamgir who had lost to Shahzad in the boys singles final of the first leg last week at the Islamabad Club, scored a 6-4, 7-5 semifinal win in what was the major upset of the tournament.
In the final, Alamgir will take on second seed Godamanna Harshana of Sri Lanka who knocked out seventh seed S. Kumail Rizvi 6-2, 6-2.
The Chinese pair of Shuai Wu and Shuang Zhang claimed the girls doubles crown by eliminating Buaklee Prim (Thailand) and Mehak Khan 6-1, 6-1 in an extremely one-sided final.
In the boys doubles, Shahzad Khan and Wasif Cheema advanced to the final with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Alamgir Wali and S. Kumail Rizvi. In Saturday’s decider, they will be up against the Sri Lankan team of Godamanna Harshana and Nishindaran NS, who ousted Munir Ashiq and Babar Ali 6-4, 6-2.
