KARACHI, Oct 9: The health and the fire brigade departments of the city government have formed emergency cells to meet any unexpected situation on the polling day.

EDO (health) Dr Ali Nawaz Sheikh has issued directives to all general hospitals of the city government, including those which have been transferred to it from the Sindh government, to ensure that all emergency and causality wards are in a proper condition to meet any untoward situation on Oct 10.

Letters have been written to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sarfraz Rafique Shaheed Hospital, Ghazdarabad Hospital, Lyari Hospital, which belong to the defunct KMC, while those transferred to the city government are the Sindh Govt Hospital Liaquatabad, SGH Orangi, SGH Saudabad, SGH Korangi, SGH New Karachi and SGH Ibrahim Hydri.

All the hospitals have been directed to allocate 10 to 15 beds for the day, besides keeping their ambulances at standby.

Dr Khalid, DMS of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, said 30 beds have been reserved for Thursday, while stocks of medicines have also been kept aside.

The EDO will be available for the day at the emergency centre along with senior doctors in the old KMC building, on M.A.Jinnah Road, whose phone No is: 9215139.

Similarly, the fire department has cancelled all leaves and short leaves of its employees and the public can provide information regarding any fire at phone No 9215007-8.

The new chief fire officer of the city government, Kazim Ali, visited different fire stations to check the condition of fire tenders and other equipment.—PPI
