Karachi Port operations

KARACHI, Oct 9: Berthing activity at the Karachi port on Wednesday was fairly brisk as the agencies cleared the inward rush of foreign flag vessels well in time.
According to KPT sources eight ships were berthed, mostly container vessels to clear the off-port position. They are: Helluan, APL Jeddah, Sinar Bontang, Kota Yegun, Jamila and Kota Indah to unload and load containers, North Sea to offload and load general goods and Ginga Merlin to unload palm oil.
Three ships, Pretty River, Al-Jaber-111 and Morning Glory departed on Wednesday, while North Sea, Song Shan, APL Jeddah, Antigoni-B, Kota Indah, Al-Manakh and Helluan are due to sail out on Thursday.
Berth occupancy at the dry wharves was on the higher side at 63 per cent, while it fell to 33 per cent on the oil piers owing to lesser calling of tankers.
A total tonnage of 53,903 tons comprising 10,340 tons of export cargo and 43,563 tons of import tonnage was handled.
The following ships are due on Thursday: Al-Maqwa, with high speed diesel, Botany Treasure, with tallow, Sorena, with crude oil, Corrando, with containers and Mohawk, with phosphate.
Port Qasim
KARACHI, Oct 9: Two ships scheduled to offload edible oil and wheat were allotted berths at Marginal Wharf during the last 24 hours. Meanwhile another ship with containers also arrived at the port, according to a PQA press release on Wednesday.
Seven ships, Chemstar Hero, Orange Confidence, Inec-B, Vorisi Piros, Nedlloyd Damiet, LMZ Evina and Alpha Future were at the wharves loading/discharging wheat, containers, edible oil, furnace oil and coal.
Cargo handling activity remained brisk as the total tonnage handled rose to 67,826 tons comprising 53,982 tons of import cargo and 13,844 tons of export tonnage, inclusive of cargo carried in 582 containers (Teus).
Sailing remained slow as only one ship Nememcha sailed out while LMZ Evina was expected to leave the port on Wednesday.
Four ships,New Guardian and GTS Sunrise, to load wheat, Mina with edible oil were at the outer anchorage. Msc Antwerp carrying containers was due to take berth at QICT.
