Pakistan elected to UN Council

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 27: Pakistan was elected to the UN Security Council on Friday after seven years. Although Pakistan was unopposed in the Asian group, it secured 172 votes in the formal elections in the UN General Assembly, as against 123 required for the slot.

Others elected are Germany, Spain, Chile and Angola. All five nations would begin their two-year stint from January, 2003.
