KARACHI, Sept 27: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal alleged on Friday that it is being pressured to abandon its “peaceful election campaign” through registration of false criminal cases and using violence and hooliganism against its peaceful workers.
Speaking at a press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq in Karachi, the Jamat-i-Islami Karachi Amir and MMA candidate from NA-244 Mairajul Huda Siddiqui said some of their workers were attacked and beaten up in Buffer Zone when they were returning after attending a rally.
“Some 31 workers were arrested on charges of setting ablaze a Muttahida Qaumi Movement election office”, he said, adding when he approached the New Karachi PS, with UC Nazim, they were also allegedly detained for three to four hours without any charges.
Flaying the police for siding with the MQM, he urged to capital city police chief Asad Jehangir to take cognizance of the illegal attitude of SHO Kiyani and DSP Rasheed, saying such people be immediately brought to justice.
“The police are playing the role of MQM’s B-team as instead of redressing the grievances of the affected party, they are siding with the attackers and known terrorists”, he said adding not a single case had been registered against those who attacked JI and MMA workers.
Furthering his allegations against the MQM, he said after targeting the Mohajir Qaumi Movement and the Sunni Tehreek, it had now started harassing MMA workers to create an environment of fear and harassment in the city.
Vowing to continue their struggle and election campaign unabatedly, he urged the city administration to remain impartial and change its attitude towards the MMA.—PPI
