Explosive devise defused in Lahore

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Sept 26: A live bomb weighing 20kg was recovered from outside the Township police station here on Thursday.

Two passersby reportedly identified the bomb that was put in a steel box with a timer outside a police station and informed the police before it could explode. The bomb disposal squad was called in who defused the device.

The police claimed that the bomb seemed to be of Russian make.

They said components of the device had been sent to the laboratory for examination.

Bomb disposal technician, Allah Yar, said that the bomb contained powerful explosives. He said had it exploded it could have caused destruction in a large area.

A few months back, the police with the help of FBI had conducted raids in the Township area and arrested over a dozen Al Qaeda suspects.

The (acting) SP of Model Town, Zubair Chathha, told reporters that the police were investigating but Al-Qaeda link could not be ruled out.
