HYDERABAD: PML-Q candidate resorts to aerial firing

HYDERABAD, Sept 26: A PML-Q candidate resorted to aerial firing in order to escape following an unpleasant incident in his constituency in Junejo Colony within the limits of the Site police station, said police on Thursday.
The trouble began when Dr Shafique Arain, a candidate for PS-49 (Hyderabad-VII), was informed by his party workers that a man, Shakeel, had removed the flags from the party office in Junejo Colony. He sent his men to ascertain facts.
It was revealed that actually Shakeel was not responsible nevertheless he was brought to the Site police station and detained for questioning.
When Dr Arain personally went to the area to apprise himself of the situation, he found his opponents from the same constituency, Saleem Tareen, who was a Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party candidate, and Aftab Khanzada of the PPP there. A large number of people had gathered by then in the area.
A heated argument started between Mr Shafique’s men and the supporters of Mr Tareen and Mr Khanzada.
A police official claimed that Mr Shafique slapped Ali Gul Magsi, who happened to be the supporter of Mr Shafique but was siding with his opponents at the time. Since the people surrounded Mr Arain he resorted to aerial firing in order to escape.
