KARACHI, Sept 24: The government has taken a serious notice of the activities of certain NGOs which are working against the national interests.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights here on Tuesday while addressing a seminar “Human Rights”, organized by Dadabhoy University, coinciding with the inauguration of an on-line free legal advisory service.

It is pertinent to consider why NGOs converge on Pakistan and ignore human rights and other violations world over, said federal law minister Khalid Ranjha, adding some individuals in Pakistan contribute towards the “nefarious designs harboured by these organisations”.

Their funds come from abroad and only a minor part of the funds was spent for the objectives enunciated by these organisations while the rest remains unaccounted for, said Khalid Ranjha. They come to us and claim that they are spreading awareness amongst the masses.

Awareness is not our problem but dominant “agrarian society” is our problem which prevents transformation of our society into an egalitarian society. The feudal mind-set never changes even after schooling in best educational institutions of the world, he said, emphasising the need for including the HR in syllabus.

He cited the example of Peshawar University and said that students conducting research in HR were being given scholarships. He asked the Dadabhoy University to replicate and establish a separate discipline for HR.

He suggested that students at the Dadabhoy University be encouraged to undertake research focussed at Islamic tenets of HR. Dr Khalid Ranjha later inaugurated the free online legal advisory service www.dadabhoyedu.com.

He also congratulated the university for focussing on HR.

Earlier, Justice (Retd) Ghous Mohammed in his address said that the university became the first institution which provides this kind of service in this metropolitan city.—PPI
