KARACHI: Police vigilance body formed

KARACHI, Sept 23: DIG (administration), Capital City Police Karachi has informed Sindh Ombudsman Justice (retired) Haziqul Khairi that a vigilance committee had been formed to ensure that no policeman harassed families/couples under the guise of checking without any plausible reason.

The DIG appeared before the ombudsman, pursuant to a notice issued to the CCPO about complaints from the public that families/couples were unnecessarily being harassed by policemen by stopping them under the guise of checking/verification without any plausible reason.

The DIG informed him about constitution of vigilance committee, consisting of ten officers who have been deployed to check those policemen who indulge in such crime.

In case any police officer is found involved in any such illegal activity, the matter may be reported for necessary action to Asad Jehangir Khan, CCPO, on Phone No: 9212652 directly or to the DIG (administration) on Phone No: 9212654, he added.

Every vigilance officer is required to submit regular reports to the CCPO every week, he maintained and added that an FIR had already been registered against two policemen, with TMO Keamari, who were found involved in harassing certain families and couples.— PPI
