Hat trick by Shahid

LAHORE, Sept 22: Leading Jockey Shahid Rehman created history when he scored a hat trick during the Lahore Winter Meeting at Racecourse Sunday.

Shahid Rehman started the day with a four-length easy win partnering dark-bay gelding Decent Fellow in the second race, following it up with a classical narrow victory on chestnut Good Justice in the third race to make it two in-a-row.

He went on to complete his hat-trick, romping home bay colt The Conqueror in the Burewala Cup in the fourth race to end the day triumphantly.

The fifth and feature event, the Chakwal Plate, a class IV & V combined handicap race was won by the bay colt Desert Dream.

Ridden by M. Hanif Desert Dream gave a splendid display of front-running to win by seven-and-a-half lengths from the derby winner dark-bay colt King Fisher.

Better Case and One Man Show completed the board in a lacklustre performance. Desert Dream clocked one minute 14 2/5 seconds over 1200 metres.

The opening event was won by the bay filly Song Of Freedom, who made amends for his defeat in previous outing. She beat another filly Storm Bird by three-fourth of a length. Song Of Freedom was ridden with great precision by jockey Javed Iqbal.

Favourites made a clean sweep when a card of five events was decided. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.
