KARACHI: Oct polls to herald in change: JI

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 22: Jamaat-i-Islami Deputy Chief Prof Ghafoor Ahmad has said that the October general election will herald in a change in the country in which the people of Karachi will play the role of the vanguard.

Mr Ahmad, who is also a leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, a conglomeration of six politico-religious parities, termed the MMA a continuation of the movement of Nizam-i-Mustafa.

Speaking at a corner meeting of MMA candidates Rashid Nasim, Hafiz Muhammad Taqui for National Assembly seats and Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Intikhab Alam, Hashim Siddiqui and Islamuddin Ayubi for provincial assembly seats at Liaquatabad on Saturday night, the JI leader said that Karachi had always played an important role in the national politics and that the MMA would bring the city back into the mainstream.

He stated that the MMA, after coming into power, would resolve the problems of price-hike, unemployment and health on priority basis; ensure the provision of education to every citizen; and restore women’s due status in the society, besides protecting the rights of the minorities rights.

Mr Ahmad said the alliance of the religious parties would bring stability in the country.
