Seven PPP, ANP men arrested after clash

By Our Correspondent

BAJAUR, Sept 21: Political administration of the agency arrested seven activists of the Awami National Party (ANP) and People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) after a clash over removing each others election posters.

A PPP nominee for NA-44 (Bajaur-II) was also nabbed following the scuffle in which four people had received injuries.

Supporters of ANP candidate for NA-44, Shahabuddin Khan, and PPP nominee   Engineer Syed Wahid clashed when the workers of the two parties started removing posters of the rival candidates.

The administration of Bajaur Agency acting under the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) arrested seven workers of the two parties, including PPP candidate Engineer Syed Wahid.

Officials said the detained workers had violated the rules and regulations of the Election Commission (EC). If these workers had not been arrested, they might have created law and order situation in the area, they explained.

Political agent of the area told Dawn here on Saturday that the administration would soon hold meetings with the nominees of various political parties and the independent candidates here to bind their workers to follow the rules and regulations laid by the EC for holding of the polls in the tribal areas.
