Son takes over from father as secretary

By Mohammad Yaqoob

LAHORE, Sept 18: In a surprise move, Mohammad Latif Butt installed his son Kamran Butt as the secretary of the Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF).

Latif, who is interestingly the outgoing secretary, forfeited the post due to health problems. It is now to be seen if he also vacates the office of secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).

The general council of the PSF met at the Pakistan Olympic Association offices Wednesday in which 20 members were present and gave approval of the change in the secretaryship.

Meanwhile, Army will defend its title in the three-day 44th national swimming championship which begins at the Model Town Club pool from Thursday.

Army is expected to face tough competition from hosts Wapda and Navy.

Army has the services of key swimmers, including Zulifqar, Mohammad Khan, Mohammad Taj and Mehboob. Nevertheless, Army will miss the absence of Abid Hussain who grabbed three gold medals in the last championship.
