Iftikhar, Kashif steal limelight

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, Sept 15: Owner-trainer Iftikhar Ali and riding boy Kashif Ali stole the limelight at the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting by registering a double at the Karachi Racecourse Sunday.

The two combined in the fourth race of the afternoon, when the bay gelding Just In Fun made it two wins in a row, by beating Prism Of Life by four lengths, with Black Magic and Silent Fire completing the frame in a big field of 18 runners.

The two later combind when Shahzadi Erum’s bay mare Welcome Shahtab, although missing the jump, collared front runner Son Of None when heads turned for home.

The opening event was landed by the grey horse Salar-e-Sehar with Abdul Jabbar in the saddle, winning the five furlong sprint by a street from The Messenger, Glamour Girl and Century.

The dark bay horse Whitney Houston with seasoned jockey M. Mazhar replacing Nisar Ahmed just before the race began, also had an easy triumph over Speed Fire and My Baboo in the next event.

Powerful Tarzan having the services of jockey Moula Bux registered yet another popular victory, sprinting in from behind to edge out Sher Khan in the last strides in the third. The game Gharnata finished third with the favourite Rolling Thunder completing the frame.

Qazi Asif’s chestnut filly Lucky One, this time piloted by Sajjid Hussain, also made it two winners in a row for the connections, holding off the keen challenge by Evershine and Brave Shah, who seemed quite content with the third spot.
