Governor Cup attracts big field

LAHORE, Sept 12: The 19th Governor Punjab golf cup tournament will attract in all 194 amateur golfers from all parts of the country.

This was stated by Murad Khan, Chairman, organising committee of the tournament at a news conference Thursday at Lahore Gymkhana Club.

“It is our regular annual feature which aims at promoting golf among the amateur players and we are looking forward for an exciting competition between the top golfers”, he said.

Murad said the main trophy will be given on net score (handicap 12 and below) and the competition will be played over 54 holes (3 rounds).

He said ladies event has been restricted to handicap 36 and below and above 55 years (maximum 18 handicap).

The tournament official said the formation of the participants is, amateurs (130),ladies (9),seniors (15),veterans (11) and juniors (29).

Oamr Azim from Lahore Gymkhana is the defending champion and the other prominent golfers competing are Vaqaas Ahmad, Shahid Javed Khan, Dr Aimal Zaman, Tariq Mahmood, Imran Ahmad, Imran Zubair,Omer Tiwana, Sameer Iftikhar, Adil Jehangir, Nadeem Abbas and Azhar Majid.

Highlighting the excellent facilities, he said, considerable maintenance effort has been made to get the course ready, fairways and greens appear in great shape and the competitors are going to enjoy the playing conditions.—APP
