Asghar wants judicial body for probe into Omer’s death
ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: Qaumi Jamhoori Party chief Asghar Khan on Thursday demanded of the government to form a judicial commission to investigate Omer Asghar Khan’s death which had been established as a murder by an independent enquiry report.
Air Marshal Asghar Khan, a leading political figure, said as he had been waiting for the enquiry report, he did not demand investigation through a judicial commission since his son’s death on June 25, 2002.
“It is quite obvious that Omer was first strangled to death and then suspended from the fan blade,” concluded an enquiry repirt conducted by a former inspector-general of police, Gohar Zaman Khan.
Police had declared it a case of suicide without going through the legal, medical and investigative procedures, Mr Zaman said in his report.
He rejected the police inquiry by contradicting two basic points of circumstantial evidence on which police relied for declaring it as a suicide.
The police base its case on two facts that the room where the death had occurred was bolted on the inside, and the written statement had recovered from the same room.
Mr Zaman said there was a ventilator close to the door, and it could easily be bolted from the outside. “I tried and did it successfully during the course of investigation,” he added.
