KARACHI: Illegal constructions on footpaths to be demolished
KARACHI, Sept 9: The Chief Controller of Buildings (CCOB), Brig A.S. Nasir has directed all the controllers of the Karachi Building Control Authority to get all illegal constructions raised on footpaths outside buildings/houses demolished, as the use of footpaths is the legal right of pedestrians.
During a visit to various city areas, Nasir noted that at most places, even the staircases of houses had been constructed on footpaths, and most residents had three to four foot portions of the internal lanes included into their buildings.
He made it clear that buildings with projected constructions would not be shown any leniency and demolition action would be taken against them.
Brig Nasir appealed to citizens to abide by the laws and demolish the projections of buildings constructed on footpaths and roads, or else the KBCA staff would do so.
The chief controller directed the deputy controller demolition to take action against all illegally constructed buildings as per the report provided to the Incharge, Legal Adviser Cell, Shahid Jamil, in light of the high court’s orders.
He cautioned that any official showing slack in this regard would not be spared. It may be mentioned that presently, there are high court orders for demolition in some 200 cases.—APP
