RAMALLAH, Sept 9: The acting head of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah movement in the West Bank on Monday called for deputies not to back the Palestinian leader’s new cabinet in a vote of confidence.

“This cabinet has ministers who are trying to prevent the Palestinian people struggling against the (Israeli) occupation, even by throwing stones,” said Hussein Sheikh, the acting secretary general for Fatah in the West Bank.

“That’s why I am calling for a no confidence vote” on Tuesday, when the Palestinian parliament meets for a second day to officially approve or dismiss the cabinet appointed by Arafat in May, when he announced a major shake-up.—AFP
