KARACHI: Notice issued in detention case

KARACHI, Sept 4: The state was put on notice for Sept 10 by a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC), comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Musheer Alam, on Tuesday while hearing a detention matter.

The bench was seized with a petition filed by Saira Begum, mother of Samiuddin. Sami was allegedly whisked away by a joint party of law-enforcers from his house on Aug 20.

The petitioner citing Home Secretary Sindh and Chief Police Officer, Karachi, has prayed to the court to order production of the detenue before SHC.

The bench after initial arguments issued notice to the state for Sept 10.

The same bench also put DAG for Pakistan on notice for Sept 13 while hearing a petition filed by one Nadir Hasan who moved the court against possible extradition of his son Haris to the US. Haris was allegedly involved in a criminal assault on a US girl during his stay in the US.

courier firm: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC), comprising Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice S. Ali Aslam Jafri, on Wednesday issued notice to the federal communications secretary and Pakistan Post Office (PPO) for Sept 10 while hearing two identical petitions filed by five courier companies.

Gerrys International, ACB (Pvt) Ltd, OCS, Leopard Couriers and TCS, citing PPO, Secretary Communication and Board of Investment maintained that they have been operating in Pakistan for the last several years and have been duly incorporated under Companies Ordinance 1984.

PPO was unreliable and has acquired a notorious reputation for incompetence and inefficiency. To meet with the demand, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has developed a system for delivery of documents which was convenient, safe and efficient, maintained the petitioners adding that they have made huge investments in terms of establishing their infrastructure and outlets/pickup centres which are employment intensive. The petitioner prayed to the court to declare that attempts by PPO to regulate the petitioners as un-lawful.

They also sought an order restraining the PPO from regulating the affairs of the petitioners and also direct the PPO to establish an independent regulatory authority.

The bench after initial arguments issued notices to the respondents and state for Sept 10.—APP
