PSO annex trophy

KARACHI, Sept 2: Pakistan State Oil (PSO) snatched the Karachi Bridge Association’s weekend Swiss Movement bridge tournament at Aslam Memorial at National Stadium Sunday.

PSO consisting of Navaid Anjum, Shakeel Chandna, Nasim Arzoo and Mubashir Puri. The collected 93 Victory Points. By virtue of this victory they have earned five Points for the Super Bowl contest.

PSO beat Commercial Union 24-06, Zeenat 18-12 Aces 18-12, Nazimabad Club 16-14 and finally Solox 17-13.

They faced stiff opposition in all the five matches but managed victories in all the five rounds of the day.

They require at least three points more, PSO scored 93 Victory Points.

This event has been declared as the qualifying phase for the Super Marathon team championship.

Raees with a makeshift partnership of Azher-Nasir Reza and the anchor pair of S.M. Ozair-Raees scored 92 VPs for the second position winning three matches from Jamal 25-01, Candyland and 25-05 and Attackers 16-14, losing against Nazimabad Club 13-17 and Solox 13-17.

Solox is improving with every outing. Solox comprising youngsters Gulzar Bilal, Amin Hakim, Imran Jaka and Sarfraz Khan won four matches from Saleem 25-01, Akber 24-06, Nazimabad Club 18-12 and Raees 17-13, losing last round match to PSO, which made the difference. Solox finished third with a score of 91 VPs.

Nazimabad Club represented by Jamal Nizami, Ghulam Muhammad, Ghufran and Shahab also scored 91 VPs,winning three matches were placed on fourth since Solox won four.

Earlier once against was a full house in the Pairs Contest. 40 players were placed in two houses equally. In the Red House, a ladies pair, Qudsia Dossa-Zeenat Azwer thwarted the challenge of other nineteen pairs by an excellent 62.50 percent score, Nasim Arzoo-Mubashir Puri scored 59.23 percent for the second position, followed by age-old pair of Abdul Khaliq-Nasir Reza Khan 57.44 percent.

In the Green house, the experienced pair of S.M. Hasnain- Iqbal Zahid outpointed their opponents with a score of 59.87 percent. Chaudhry Sharif-Mushahid scored 57.77 percent for the second and Tariq Zafar-Javed Rehman completed the frame with a score of 56.45 percent.

In the meantime Pakistan Bridge Federation’s Super Bowl Invitation will be held Tuesday.

The programme will commence at 6.00pm. This programme is being held to recognize the contribution of senior bridge players of the country. Mr Shahin Iqbal will be the recipient of the Super Bowl VII. All the bridge players intend to contest have been advised to confirm their entries before 5.30pm.—APP
