HYDERABAD, Sept 1: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has expressed hope that honest people will be the elected in the coming elections.

Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair, an MMA candidate from NA-220 Hyderabad, was addressing JUP workers at the Madressa Taleemat-i-Muhammadia at Al-Fazal town, Phulelli, on Saturday night.

He said the religious parties had put up joint candidates during the local bodies’ elections as a result of which honest people have been elected in Karachi and Hyderabad.

He said the MMA was the symbol of unity of Pakistan and it was for the greater glory of Islam and stability of Pakistan that all the religious parties had united on one platform.

MUET: The 21st meeting of the senate of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, was held the other day.

The senate approved the revised recurring budget estimates of Rs199.877 million for the year 2001-2002 and annual recurring budget estimates of Rs222.400 million for the year 2002-2003.

A budget deficit of more than Rs30 million is estimated due to revision of pay scales, inadequate government grant, increase in utility bills and petrol and oil lubricant and reduction in bank profit.
