KARACHI, Sept 1: Jamaat-i-Islami’s deputy chief Prof Ghafoor Ahmad has stated that Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal is the manifestation of people’s unity, which has fielded honest and competent people for the October elections.

“The military government has planned to turn the country into a secular state but the people, who are committed to Islam, would foil this bid.”

Prof Ghafoor Ahmad was addressing the party workers’ convention in connection with the launching of election campaign of MMA candidate from NA-244, Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui.

The moot was also addressed by provincial assembly candidates from PS-100, Abdul Baqi, and from PS-102, Syed Muhammad Iqbal.

Referring to the situation being faced by the country, the JI leader warned against rigging of election which he said could endanger the solidarity of the country.

“The country is faced with a threat, so the people must come forward and play their role,” he added.

Prof Ghafoor Ahmad lauded the performance of the city government, saying that through its dedicated service to the people, it has proved that only an honest and capable leadership can deliver.

He said the country could overcome such problems as price hike, unemployment and poverty by getting rid of those promoting US agenda.

price hike: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Sunday condemned the increase in petroleum prices announced the other day, describing it as “unprecedented.”, adds PPI.

In a statement, JI Karachi Amir Meraj-ul-Huda said the “anti-people” move was taken “on the directives of the World Bank and International Monitory Fund.”

He said despite making tall claims of alleviating poverty, the government was burdening the already suppressed people of the country.
