16 killed in Kashmir violence


SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Indian troops claimed killing 16 Mujahideen in separate clashes in occupied Kashmir on Thursday and Wednesday night.

In occupied Jammu, an Indian army spokesman claimed the slaying of six freedom fighters in three separate gunbattles with soldiers in the districts of Doda, Rajouri and Poonch on Thursday.

The spokesman said two members of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen were killed in Poonch, adding that three more were gunned down in a forest of Rajouri district.

A fighter belonging to the Lashkar-i-Taiba was shot dead by troops in Doda district, another official claimed.

On Thursday Indian troops clashed with three Mujahideen near the highway village of Qazigund, south of Srinagar, killing one of them, a police spokesman claimed.—AFP
