KARACHI, Aug 29: Speaking to councillors in Bin Qasim Town, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Thursday said the city government has decided to pay honoraria to councillors.
He pointed out that funds for the payment of honoraria to councillors have been provided in the city government’s budget, while the file has been sent to the government for approval. While taking notice of complaints by lady councillors, he said that a meeting of union nazimeen will be convened, in which disputed issues between nazimeen and councillors will be resolved.
Khan also said that the city government did not discriminate between rural and urban areas. The city government has paid more attention to rural areas in its efforts to bring them at par with urban areas, he claimed, while addressing public meetings and gatherings in various villages of Landhi and Bin Qasim Towns’ to review the ongoing cleanliness campaign.
He pointed out that a lot of work is being done in rural areas with particular focus on the education and health sectors, and the results thereof would be apparent soon.
The city nazim also visited Chakra Goth, where recent flooding caused considerable damage. He assured the victims that all possible help would be extended to them.
Addressing a public meeting at UC-5, Sharafi Goth, the nazim said that the city government is considering a strategy to solve the problems of villages of the city, and a high level meeting in this regard will be convened soon for taking a decision regarding the problems of these villages.
Khan announced that the Government Boys Primary School Sharafi Goth will be upgraded to the middle level, while a high school will be established for girl students. He said a college and a maternity home will also be set up in the village.
The city nazim said that he personally gives great importance to education, because no society can progress without it. He declared that education will be universalized for the development of these villages.
KEAMARI AND BALDIA: Naimatullah Khan also visited two of the most backward of Karachi’s towns — Baldia Town and Keamari Town.
He announced that efforts are being made for the uplift of these towns, which have been left behind from the main city in terms of development.
Baldia Town Nazim Aurangzeb Khan appraised the city nazim of numerous problems faced by them since no uplift work has been done in the area for the last couple of decades.
Regarding health facilities, Aurangzeb said that there are only two urban health care centres in the town, which are too far away from the main city, therefore a hospital is needed in Baldia Town.
The city nazim was informed that the worst problem being faced by the residents is shortage of potable water and the powerful encroachment mafia.
The city nazim announced that every inch of encroached land in Baldia Town will be recovered, and added that after the expected devolution of the Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority (SKAA), water and sewerage work would be initiated in these slum areas also.
With the regularization of these katchi abadis, towns will also benefit from additional revenue generated from leases, he stated.
During, the visit to Keamari Town, he was shown various places in Sher Shah where people were seen helping the civic agencies in clearing heaps of garbage that had accumulated over the years.
Zulfiqar Younas, town nazim, informed about the various development works carried out by the town administration during its one year in office, and expressed optimism that the major problems would be resolved.—APP/PPI
