KARACHI, Aug 28: Pakistan Rangers has information that Islamic militants angered by President Musharraf’s support for the US-led war on terror might launch attacks in Karachi on Sept 11.

Rangers Director-General Maj-Gen Salahuddin told reporters on Wednesday the paramilitary force had beefed up security in the city ahead of the anniversary of attacks on New York and Washington.

“There is credible information that the Islamic militants want to convey a message on Sept 11,” Mr Salahuddin said and added:”We have taken adequate security measures to prevent such attacks”.

Mr Salahuddin said India’s intelligence outfit — Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) — could also use the cover of the Sept 11 anniversary to carry out violent attacks in the country.

He declined to disclose any possible targets in the city, saying:”There are some hard targets and some soft targets.”
