Lawyers observe black day

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Aug 27: Lawyers throughout the country observed black day on Tuesday to condemn the promulgation of the Legal Framework Order, 2002, on the unanimous call of all bar bodies.

Black flags were hoisted on the offices of the Pakistan Bar Council, provincial bar councils, Supreme Court, High Court and district bar associations in the morning. The lawyers took oath of allegiance to the Constitution of Pakistan and vowed to protect it.

The lawyers attended the court proceedings wearing black arm bands. Various bar bodies at their meetings criticized the promulgation of LFO 2002 and demanded its repeal.

Speaking at a joint press conference at the Lahore High Court in the afternoon, the office-bearers of the Pakistan Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council, Supreme Court, Lahore High Court and Lahore Bar Association said according to reports received from more than 30 places black day was observed by lawyers countrywide.
