KARACHI: Anti-polio drive in September


KARACHI, Aug 27: 8.4 million children below five years of age will be administered polio drops during a three-day campaign to be launched in Sindh from September 3.

This was stated by the health minister Maj-Gen Ahsan Ahmed, while chairing a high-level meeting at his office here on Tuesday.

As many as 16,493 mobile teams will be in place along with 1,212 fixed centres in the campaign to be launched in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Nawabshah, Naushero Feroze, Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad.

The meeting was attended by the director general health, the director EPI, and representatives of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and Rotary Club.

Meanwhile, Sindh health secretary Khalid Latif Choudhry, at a meeting here on Tuesday, said that the number of polio cases had gradually decreased in the province and it was hoped that the disease would be eliminated from the province by the end of this year.—APP
