SINGAPORE, Aug 25: Chen Hong and Zhou Mi completed a Chinese double in the Singapore Open Sunday as they eased to respective victory in straight sets in the men’s and women’s singles.
All-England champion Chen outclassed local challenger Ronald Susilo 15-4, 15-1 in just 23 minutes while Zhou cruised through 11-6, 11-3 against compatriot and defending champion Zhang Ning in the women’s final.
Susilo, whose giant-killing feats in the earlier rounds made him a hero in Singapore, had become the first local player to reach the men’s final in the 12-year history of the event.
China were able to celebrate a third title on Sunday after the second-seeded pair of Huang Nanyan and Yang Wei beat South Korea’s Lee Hyo Jung and Hwang Yu Mi 11-1, 11-8 in the women’s doubles final.
In the men’s doubles final, England’s Flandi Limpele and Eng Hian beat Ha Tae Kwon and Kim Dong Moon of South Korea 15-8, 11-15, 17-14.
