ABBOTTABAD, Aug 22: New Khan Road Runner won the Team Trophy of 5th All-Pakistan Mushtaq Rehmani Memorial badminton tournament here after defeating PTCL by 3-1 in the final played at city sports complex Tuesday.

Earlier in the semifinal, PTCL defeated Pak Army 3-0 while New Khan Road Runner defeated WAPDA Multan 3-0.

New Khan having the services of country top shutttlers were given tough time by the arch rival PTCL as national champion Wajid was extended to the limit by Ashraf Mashie in one of the best matches of the tournament.

Wajid after losing first game 7-15 made bounced back to win 15-17, 15-10.

Zehsan and Rizwan brought score 1-1 by winning doubles against Wajid and Waqas 4-15, 15-12, 15-12. In the third match of singles, Ahsan put New Khan into lead by beating  Akram Mash 15-8, 15-12.

The strong combination Imran and Noman Sikandar defeated Ashraf Mashie and Akram Mash 15-4, 15-8 to seal the fate of the final.

Inspector General Police NWFP, Muhammed Saeed Khan inaugurated the tournament by tossing the shuttle.

All the top players of the country will participate in this event with cash purse of Rs. 25,000. Pakistan No 1, Wajid is considered as favourite for single title.
