LAHORE, Aug 20: Seven-year-old  bay  mare  Dillagi, can make it a hat trick if turf conditions are suitable, by going all out to win the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Race Course Wednesday.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) has drawn up a mediocre card of six events for the midweek gymkhana races. All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 800 metres.

The halfbred mare Dillagi is contesting in the sixth and last race of the day, the Leiah Plate class VII division V to be participated by eight contestants, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

Dillagi, a progeny of Eighth Wonder out-of-Noor Nishan has already won two races consecutively on July 10 and August 7 last. The way she won on both occasions, there are chances she may carry it to three in-a-row, provided her connections are willing to do so.

Among her opponents the four-year-old colt Puma Star, The colt Mubashar Prince and the filly Song Of Freedom  are prominent. The last named is a highly pedigreed filly and had registered three random victories last season. However, this is her first appearance since June 2 last.

Except for the first two races which have about a dozen runners each, other events have tiny fields. In the fifth race there are hardly six contestants barring last-minute withdrawals.

This race will be at the LRC stewards option. Under the LRC rules the event cannot be held for paucity of runners.

According to rules there should be at least seven runners of seven different interests  in a gymkhana lower class race.  However,  the handicapper instead of declaring it void has left it to the stewards to decide. Such events with tiny fields, it has been observed becomes ideal events for race fixers.

First race will be held at 2.30 pm.
