KARACHI: Cable operators call off strike

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 20: Cable operators in the city withdrew their three-day strike on Tuesday, which they had started on Monday.

The chairman of the All-Pakistan Terrestrial Cable-TV Operators’ Association, Hasan Mustufa, told Dawn that they would go to Islamabad to hold a meeting with the officials of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) next Monday.

“We hope that all our grievances will be removed after our meeting with the PEMRA officials,” he added.

Mr Hasan said the major grievances of cable operators were police harassment, imposition of a new tax at the rate of Rs50 per subscriber per month by the city government, and the amended rules laid by the PEMRA which were hampering business of the cable operators.
