KARACHI: Candidates begin obtaining nomination forms

KARACHI, Aug 19: The intending candidates of various political parties on Monday obtained nomination forms at the designated offices of the returning and assistant returning officers here on Monday.

However, not a single form was filed by candidates in the city, an official at the election commission said.

He said according to reports received across the province, only one nomination paper had been filed in Sukkur.

The distribution of forms for the general seats and the seats reserved for women and non-Muslims started on Monday with hundreds of forms obtained by candidates of various political parties. Most candidates obtained forms in multiple numbers, an official said.

He said a candidate obtained 15 forms, and another applied for 20 forms. Each form costs Rs10.

The election commission has taken measures and issued special instructions to all the returning and assistant returning officers to cooperate with the candidates to ensue fair and transparent elections being held on Oct 10.

Out of the 332 national assembly seats, 75 have been reserved for Sindh, including 14 for women.

The seats for the provincial assemblies have been revised and now Sindh assembly will have 168 members, including 29 women and nine minority members.—APP
