KARACHI, Aug 16: Federal minister for communications & railways, Lt-Gen Javed Ashraf Qazi on Friday issued directives for speedy development work on the Karachi Northern Bypass and the Lyari Expressway projects.

During a visit to the site of the Lyari Expressway project on Mauripur, he assured the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) of all possible help in the removal of bottlenecks to the project.

Chairman NHA Maj-Gen Farukh Javed, director-general FWO Maj- Gen Shahid Niaz, general manager NHA (Sindh) Mian Abdul Haq, senior officers of the ministry of communications and highway experts of the NHA were present on the occasion

Javed Ashraf said the KNB was included in the priority list of the government and the project would facilitate transportation of trade goods from the Karachi port to the rest of the country, besides helping improve the traffic system in the city.

He further said the Lyari Expressway was of extraordinary importance for Karachi and it would enhance the beauty of the city as well as help a smooth flow of traffic.

Both the projects, he added, had been approved after detailed study. He further said a comprehensive plan had been made for the resettlement of those affected by the project.—APP
