KARACHI: Computer fee in colleges reduced by 50 per cent
KARACHI, Aug 13: The Sindh cabinet, which met here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Governor Mohammadmian Soomro, approved a proposal to reduce the annual fee of Rs 1,000 for computer courses in higher secondary schools and colleges of the province to Rs 500.
The proposal was put forward by Education Minister Khan Mohammad Dahri. The cabinet also decided to allow poor students to deposit the fee in easy instalments.
It also extended the admission date for computer courses, which was originally Aug 15. The new date will be announced later.
The governor said that teachers are an important and respectful segment of the educational system and that their cooperation and participation in matters relating to teachers and the betterment of the education system be ensured. He directed both the education minister and Chief Secretary K.B. Rind to devise an effective line of action for keeping liaison with teachers.
He said teachers, students, parents and the administration should play their collective role for the improvement of the education system.
The meeting was informed that all colleges in Sindh will be provided computers during the current year. In this regard, besides the provision of funds by the government, the governor stressed on obtaining the cooperation of various non-governmental organizations as well.
Emphasizing upon the maintenance of buildings of educational institutions, the governor called for regularity in the rehabilitation and repair works. He called for a survey of buildings in dilapidated condition and their repair with priority.
The cabinet directed the Board of Revenue to chalk out a clear policy for the allotment of land for graveyards in various parts of Sindh.
The Auqaf Department was directed to take practical steps for the maintenance of shrines and provision of facilities to “zaireen.”
He said that revenue earned from shrines should not be spent unnecessarily, but rather on the provision of facilities for “zaireen” and on the shrines themselves.
The chief secretary said that steps are in place for improving the law and order situation in Sindh, and that efforts were being made for the provision of equipment and vehicles to police in all parts of the province according to their requirements.
The governor directed that regularity be maintained in action against anti-social elements throughout the province and, if the situation warranted, an organized operation be initiated against dacoits and criminals in the required areas.
The cabinet expressed its delight over the successful holding of an IT conference and exhibition in the city. The governor said that such events played an instrumental role in the the development of the area, prosperity of the people and increased economic activity. He directed other departments to also plan similar programmes and conferences in their respective fields.
The member registration, Stamp and Evacuee Property Wing of the Board of Revenue, Munawar Opel, gave a briefing on various matters related to stamp duty and registration.
The cabinet decided to reduce stamp duty from the existing five per cent to three per cent on conveyance deed of all movable and immovable properties and to reduce the registration fee from the existing 1.5 per cent to only one per cent. In order to check misuse of power of attorney, the cabinet issued directive for its review.
It was decided to make the RS and EP Wing of the Board of Revenue as an attached department of the board. This decision will make the member RS and EP as secretary of Sindh government department, while the positions of IG of stamps and IG of registration would be merged into the IG of registration and stamps.—APP
