Benazir condemns hospital attack

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The former premier and front-runner for the coming elections Benazir Bhutto has condemned the grenade attack on the Christian hospital in Taxila on Friday morning which left four dead and dozens injured.

Three assailants reportedly hurled grenades at the staff as they were emerging from a church service at the hospital in Taxila, not far from the federal capital on Friday morning.

Early in the week a Christian school in Murree was also attacked.

Ms Bhutto said that the repeated attacks on Christian premises and other places clearly showed that the present regime has failed to establish the writ of government. “It claims to be a strong one-man show, whereas, the reality is that the situation is slipping out of its hand.”

The chairperson of the PPP demanded the restoration of the democratic process through free and fair elections to meet the growing threats of anarchy and lawlessness.

“Empowering people puts them in control of the situation and dis-empowering them furthers the cause of militancy”.

The former premier, however, expressed doubts whether the regime was capable of comprehending the complexity of the situation.

She said doubts were being expressed because the regime has still not implemented the electoral reform package of the opposition, nor has ended the abuse of law taking place as part of pre-electoral rigging.
