KARACHI, Aug 9: The University of Karachi may conduct a high- level probe into the case of alleged harassment of students by certain teaching members at the Centre of Excellence in Marine Biology.

A spokesman for the university said on Friday that the vice- chancellor had already taken some actions after receiving an application from some students complaining of harassment caused to female students. The spokesman said that a judicial committee or commission was also being instituted.

Under the directive of the vice-chancellor, the registrar of the university has also written a letter to the president of the Karachi University Teachers’ Society requesting him to extend his assistance in resolving the crisis.

It was further said that certain organizations should understand the sensitivity of the matter and refrain from exploiting the situation.

In the meantime, the vice-chancellor, who is also the chairman of the BoG of the Centre has asked the two teachers who have been accused of harassment, to go a on long leave till the time the proposed commission completes its reports.
