SANGHAR, Aug 7: The farmers have demanded removal of the ban, imposed by the railway authorities, on the booking of the green chili on the trains from the Tando Adam railway station.

Khair Mohammad Narejo, president, Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Yar Mohammad Laghari, Samo Khan Dahri, the president and the general secretary of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Sanghar, respectively, and Hassan Askari of the Small Growers Association, told this correspondent about the ban and its adverse effects on the farmers of the area.

Tando Adam and its surrounding areas, Jhol, Tando Allahyar, Bhitshah, Dilore Mori, Berani, Naoabad, Bobi, Chaborlo, Dilshakh, Mian, and Bakhoro are the main, green chili producing area, and Tando Adam was the main station to dispatch the produce to upcountry, especially to Lahore, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, etc.

The Pakistan Railways would earn more than Rs50 to 80 thousand per day from the Tando Adam station.

Besides this, more than 250 people including donkey carts owners and loaders earned their livelihood by assisting the activity.

Since October 10, 2001, the PR authorities have banned the booking of chili from Tando Adam.
