MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 1: Two boys were killed and at least five other people, three of them from same family, were injured in Neelum valley in Indian shelling which continued in the area throughout Wednesday night and Thursday, causing colossal loss to properties as well, officials said.
Two people, identified as Mohammad Yousaf and Mujtaba, were injured around midnight on Wednesday at Karen bypass and in Tejian village in the upper belt of the valley. At least three stationery vehicles and two houses were also damaged in Kel, also in the upper belt.
Heavy shelling resumed early morning and was reported from almost all sectors of the valley, which the Indian troops target from beginning to end with the exception of some small portions.
Two boys, Wajid, 15, son of Matiullah and Qadeer, 4, son of Wali Ahmed, were killed in Ore Syedan village, which, being 12 kilometres ahead of the town of Athmuqam, also falls in the upper belt of the valley.
Wali Ahmed’s wife Qaisar Jan, 34, and two other sons, Waheed Ahmed, 12, and Tanvir Ahmed, 8, were critically injured and admitted to a local military hospital.
Thursday’s shelling completely damaged eight shops and three mosques in Tejian and Kel while eight houses were damaged in the town of Athmuqam.
