Al Qaeda trained 3,000 Britons: report

By Our Correspondent

LONDON, July 21: Senior security sources of Britain believe that at least 3,000 British-based Islamic extremists have been trained in Al Qaeda and Taliban terrorist camps in Afghanistan over the past 10 years, reports the Sunday Times.

The paper says the figure, equivalent to about five infantry battalions, is the government’s latest internal assessment of the potential threat Britain is facing from surviving members of Osama’s terrorist network.
