Hearing in BMW case adjourned

RAWALPINDI, July 18: An accountability court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of NAB’s BMW Reference against former senator Asif Ali Zardari until July 29.

Mr Zardari was present in the court on Wednesday but his counsel was preoccupied somewhere else.

Mr Zardari is accused of impersonating a student to evade duties on the import of an armoured luxury vehicle, depriving the national exchequer of Rs10m.

The prosecution claimed that the actual price of the 2,500kg bulletproof vehicle was 55,000 British pounds. However, to evade the duty, the accused showed the weight of the car as 1,610kg and its price as 12,000 pounds.—APP
