BADIN, July 18: Despite a decline in the national population growth, 2,500 to 3,000 mothers die in Pakistan each year while thousands of the mothers suffer from gynaecology diseases.

Speaking at the first award distribution ceremony, organized for best lady health workers (LHWs) and lady health supervisors (LHSs) of the district here on Thursday, the participants said 90 children per thousand die every year before one year of age.

The ceremony was organized by the National Programme for Family Planning and the Primary Healthcare, Badin district.

The chief guest, Dr Fateh Mohammad Khan, director-general, Health Services, Sindh, said no nation could progress unless the people were provided with comprehensive healthcare system.

He said complete and correct information on female health issues should be provided to raise public awareness, particularly in rural areas.

The provincial coordinator, National Programme for Family Planning, Dr Husna Jan Mohammad Memon, said positive results had been being achieved through the deployment of thousands of village-based workers.

She said Nazims should play their role within their union councils to overcome poor female health and hygiene, lack of education and the widespread communication gap, existing within the females.
