Textile board panel meets today

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, July 16: The Federal Textile Board’s sectoral committee on raw cotton will meet here on Wednesday to discuss and formulate its recommendations for preparing Cotton Vision 2005.

Convener of the committee, Gohar Ejaz told Dawn here on Tuesday that the effort would be to put forward recommendations to the government for formulation of a long-term policy that equally benefited all stakeholders — growers, ginners, and textile industry — through value addition.

The committee will review and develop cotton policy, mechanism for crop estimates, month-wise stock-taking of cotton production, import, and export. It will also look into problems of growers and ginners. Besides, it will also discuss cotton pricing based on international yarn rates, financing issues, cotton standards, and production of contamination-free cotton.

Mr Gohar has invited leading textile businessmen, growers and ginners to the meeting for an in-depth analysis of the cotton situation.
