KARACHI, July 13: An alleged carjacker was shot dead by police on Tariq Road while his accomplice fled away on Saturday, leaving behind a stolen vehicle and illegal weapons.
Police said a woman complained to the police that two robbers snatched her gold-chain and Rs10,000 near Baitul Mukarram mosque in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and sped away in a car (ACD-875). The car was spotted near Cafe Liberty on Tariq Road by a police constable, Ramzan.
The police said as the car stopped near the Paradise Opticals and one of the robbers, holding a TT pistol alighted from the car, Ramzan challenged the alleged robber, who tried to run away firing at the police. Ramzan chased the alleged robber and fired a single bullet, which hit him in the neck and he died on the spot.
The police recovered a TT pistol from him. His accomplice escaped, leaving behind the car, which was taken into possession by the police.
A 9mm pistol, a 32-bore pistol, Rs33,500 and 10 registration plates of five vehicles were also found in the car.
The dead was shifted to a local hospital for autopsy where he was identified as Sadiq Shah.
DSP Shad said the ACD-875 was actually the registration number of Toyota Corolla but it was a Honda City. The ACD-875 was stolen in Bahadurabad a couple of days back and it was recovered the very next day.
SUICIDE: A man hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his Gulzar-i-Hijri home on Saturday.
Mohammad Fahim, 33, was found hanging in his home by his wife, who informed the police about the incident.
She told the police that she had gone to her parents home some five days back, with her five-year-old daughter. As she returned home in Metroville-III in Gulzar-i-Hijri police limits, she found her husband hanging with a ceiling fan in a room.
The police shifted the body to a hospital for autopsy where it was established that Fahim committed suicide.
CARJACKING: As many as 15 vehicles — six cars and nine motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Saturday.
Two cars were hijacked and two others stolen in different localities, including Gizri and New Town.
Five motorbikes were hijacked and four others stolen in Garden, Mominabad, Malir, F.B. Area, Kharadar and Pak Colony.
Police claimed to have recovered four stolen vehicles (W- 0716, F-3286, KG-8302, E-0737), two motorbikes (KCB-9870, HDL- 7161) and a rickshaw (D-06247).
ARRESTS: Police arrested five alleged robbers, including a policeman, on Saturday in various areas.
Police said two robbers were arrested when they attempted to loot Mashallah Milk Shop in Jamshed Quarters. During investigation, they named a policeman Ali Raza as their accomplice in robberies in which they killed a man on resistance.
In Soldier Bazaar, two more robbers were arrested with two TT pistols when they attempted to loot a woman near KMC Market in Soldier Bazaar. The suspects were identified as Nasir and Yusuf.
In Baghdadi area, two more robbers were arrested after they were held by the people in Baghdadi. The robbers entered the house of Abdur Razzak in Street No 7, Moosa Lane, and attempted to loot him. Abdur Razzak resisted the bandits, who shot Razzaq in his leg, and tried to flee.
The neighbours, who saw the robbers, informed Madadgar-15, and the police reached the spot and arrested the robbers.
