DADU, July 12: A large number of people from Pir Illahi Bakhsh village staged a demonstration in front of the press club here on Friday against criminals and corrupt police officials of Bhan Saeedabad.

Led by Mr Loung and Allan Panhwar, they told newsmen that the gang of three criminals, Ishaq, Abbas and Sultan, barged into the house of a villager, Pir Bakhsh Panhwar and held all inmates hostage in a bid to occupy the property.

On resistance, they said, the criminals attacked and injured Pir Bakhsh Panhwar and threatened the inmates with dire consequences if anyone tried to seek help from police or other authorities.

The protesters claimed that they approached the SHO of Bhan Saeedabad to lodge an FIR against the criminals but he demanded Rs20,000 as bribe to register the case and threaten to implicate them in false cases if the amount was not paid.

They accused the SHO of abetting the criminals and appealed to the DPO Dadu and AIG, Hyderabad, to take action against the police and criminals.

Later, a delegation of the protesters called on the DPO, Dadu, Capt Mohammad Tahir Naveed, and apprised him of their problem.

He directed the SHO to register the case and asked the in-charge of Police Complaint Cell to investigate the matter.

ATTACK: A landlord, Ghulam Mohammad Panhwar, told newsmen at the press club here on Friday that four persons had attacked and injured his peasants, Abdul Meehon Khan Lund and Wahid Bakhsh Lund, while they were busy farming in deh Dubee on Friday.

He alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of a retired DSP, Ghulam Akbar Panhwar.

He also accused Akbar Panhwar of trying to deprive him of his land by changing record through fake documents and lodging false FIRs against him.

He appealed to the district administration for justice and an action against the retired police officer who, he claimed enjoyed support from the local administration.

ACCIDENT: An unidentified passerby was run over by a Karachi-bound truck near Sehwan along the Indus Highway on Friday. The truck driver fled from the scene.
