KARACHI, July 12: The Muttahida Mujlis-e-Amal (MMA), Sindh chapter, on Friday announced to launch a mass contact campaign from July 17 in Sindh.
Provincial chief of the MMA, Asadullah Bhutto Advocate, addressing a news conference in Karachi, alleged that the government through its constitutional package and amendments was trying to force political parties to boycott the forthcoming election.
He reiterated his vow that political and religious parties through a joint struggle would foil all such “ conspiracies” under the cover of democracy.
Giving details about the campaign, he said that the MMA had also decided to arrange public meetings in all the divisional headquarters. He said that frequent amendment to the Constitution had made the situation complicated for political parties.
He referred to a number of proposed constitutional amendments which were, according to him, “not clear” with notes to the effect that further details would be announced public soon.
“ On one hand, the government invites public suggestions on the senate system, and on the other, it announces the schedule of the elections without receiving suggestions,” he said.
He strongly condemned the arrest of MMA leaders Maulana Shabir Ahmed from Hyderabad and Maulana Abdul Haq from Quetta, and demanded immediate release of these leaders and other workers.—PPI
