PESHAWAR, July 9: The NWFP government has placed all the public prosecutors in the province under the supervision of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department.
In this regard a notification was issued by the secretary of law department on July 6.
The notification said that all the government pleaders/additional government pleaders at the relevant stations should take up cases of civil nature by themselves.
The criminal work would be taken up by the public prosecutors (under any name) who would be under the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, NWFP, Peshawar, it added.
Unlike other three provinces where the prosecution branch is under the respective home departments, in the NWFP the prosecution was attached with the law department. Early, this year the prosecution was separated from the police department during the ongoing police reforms.
The law department had certain reservations over the issue and the proposal was sent to Advocate General’s office for an opinion, who also opined that the prosecutors should be with the home department.
