KARACHI, July 6: A memorial meeting organized for the late Omar Asghar Khan has demanded that a high-level judicial enquiry be instituted into the unnatural death of former federal minister.

The unanimously adopted resolution at the meeting organized by the Qaumi Jamhoori Party on Saturday said that the report of the enquiry that should be conducted by a sitting Supreme Court judge should be made public.

The meeting in an other resolution pointed out that the late leader fought all his life for the upliftment of women and workers. It demanded that quota of reserved seats for women in the parliament be increased to 33 per cent.

It further demanded that seats be reserved for the representatives of workers and farmers in the parliament and that the condition of graduation for the parliamentarians be waived off for the representatives of workers and farmers.

Earlier, various speakers on the occasion dismissed the official view that Omar had committed suicide. They said that Omar had performed all his jobs during the day and had planned and confirmed various engagements for the next and coming days, which was very unusual for a person planning to commit suicide.

They said that Omer had organized the labour conference after a lapse of 13 years. He was struggling to change the prevailing anti-poor system, so the vested interests had removed him from the scene so that the present exploitative system continued.

They said that Omar was a very practical person and was trying to bridge the gap between the employees and the employers by talking to both the groups and urging them to try to understand the problems and issues and try to accommodate each other’s demands.

About the democratic nature of Omar they said that after setting up a new political party he did not take up the presidency automatically and first held elections and after he was elected he assumed the president’s office.

They said that his was the only party that had written in its constitution that nobody could hold office for more than two terms of two years each.

They said that he organized and mobilized people in such a way that they themselves were able to solve most of their issues being faced by them.
