QUETTA, June 23: Punjab Law Minister Rana Ejaz Ahmed Khan has said that the proposed constitutional amendments the government wants to introduce before the general election, will be presented in new parliament for approval.
Speaking at a Press Conference here on Sunday he said the proposed constitutional amendments were being prepared in the light of Zafar Ali Shah’s case and politicians needed not worry about them.
He said the government wanted to introduce constitutional amendments in the larger interest of the country with the aim of restoring true democracy in the country.
Referring to President’s invitation to politicians for a meeting on the current regional situation, the Punjab law minister said that it was not the right time for anyone to set conditions for talks.
He asked the politicians to set aside their differences with the government and initiate negotiations on a one-point agenda of saving Pakistan.
“Pakistan must be our first priority. Democracy and all other issues are linked with the existence of the country,” he said.
He said India had deployed its army at Pakistan and Kashmir’s borders and it was continuously lobbing rockets and mortar shells from across the border resulting in deaths of innocent people.
He said due to government’s positive policies, the Pakistan Steel Mills, PIA, Railways and many other government institutions, which were suffering financial losses in the past, were now earning profit and for this change credit went to the Musharraf government which not only minimised corruption in government organisations, but also made them profitable.
He said the present government also initiated accountability process and convicted corrupt elements irrespective of any discrimination between civil and military officials.
He said the government was impartial in the accountability process as was evident from the arrest of Admiral Mansoor-ul-Haq and Air Marshal Viqar Azeem under corruption charges. He said it proved that the government was sincere in the accountability process.
