Price increase: consumers, shopkeepers come to blows

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, June 20: Over a dozen consumers and shopkeepers came to blows on Thursday over charging extra prices for edible items.

This correspondent during a survey on Thursday learnt shopkeepers had been charging 20 to 30 per cent extra on ghee, oil, flour, sugar and other items of daily use.

Some consumers claimed there was no a report or announcement from the government about the increase in the prices of these articles.

In an instance, a shopkeeper beat one Muhammad Shabbir at the Jhang bazaar following an exchange of harsh words over extra rate of five-kilogram tin of vanaspati ghee.

Several other incidents had been reported in Samanabad, Ghulam Muhammadabad, Jhang Bazaar and some rural areas of the district.
